Not a Yogi? Why Yoga Can Still Enhance Your Exercise Routine

Sometimes fitness goers can fall into “camps” – bootcamp fanatics, spin cyclicsts and the list of fitness affinities goes on. But even if you’re not in the yogi camp, the practice can still have great benefits for your body and mind.  Trainers Heidi Kristoffer and Robert Nguyen explain the benefits of adding yoga to your exercise routine, with Heidi pointing out that yoga is a complete mind and body workout, and that there are many different styles of yoga so you can find the one that works for you.


Builds Strength

Yoga uses your body’s own weight to help build strength.  Different poses work different sets of muscles, but all poses involve the use of your core to balance yourself, which helps improve muscle tone.  Though all types of yoga help with strength, power yoga is an especially athletic form of yoga that builds strength more quickly. What is CrossflowX? Heidi Kristoffer Explains

Our favorite new Booya instructor, Heidi Kristoffer, didn’t have a favorite yoga class.  So, she created her own: CrossflowX.

CrossflowX combines yoga, cardio and Kundalini Kriyas to create a workout that builds strength, boosts cardio and improves your mood.  What’s great about CrossflowX is that you’re able to do the whole workout on the space of a yoga mat, making it a great option to get a total body and mind workout in a small space.


Flow Yoga

Flow yoga is a type of yoga that involves flowing smoothly from one position to the next.  Heidi incorporates lots of flow yoga into CrossflowX, which is a great way to increase your heart rate, energize your body and learn to match your breath to your movement. The yoga poses are also great as they use your body’s own weight to build strength.
